Much of today’s art is exhibited in museums, yet a large part of their art collection is kept in storage and out of view. Recent trends in the digitization of art make it accessible to everyone. The data available then enables to think about innovative and modern ways to engage with painting collections.
The RijksMuseum, largest art museum in Amsterdam, digitized their entire collection in 2013. Our team utilized this opportunity to create four unique D3 web-based ‘exhibits’ that help users interact with the paintings in ways previously unavailable. This project received the "Best Project Award" of the CMU "Visualization in HCI" course. We also recently submitted this project to IEEE Visualization conference and the VISAP Program.
