Shibuya crossing in Tokyo can comprise as many as 2,500 pedestrians crossing the road at once. For an art exhibition of Pr. Golan Levin's class, I reflected on how a public webcam could capture, analyze and display Shibuya's iconic dynamics in an organic manner.
I created an OpenFrameworks application applying Computer Vision to a Youtube Live feed. I extracted the speed of movements in the frames and presented it as a colorful flow, a speed heartbeat and an alternance of red and green pedestrian light. My work was exhibited for a few hours in the Studio of Creative Inquiry.
